Created in 1982 the result as a merger between Dr. Jones and Puritan churches.  Declining enrollment and irreconcilable differences led to the closing in 2003.

Welsh services ended in 1923. In 1960 the church joined the United Church of Christ   In 1960 also, there were failed negotiations to merge with Puritan Congregational Church, but succeeded in 1982.  While still in transition, they were called Puritan & Dr. Jones Memorial Church, United Church of Christ.  Later that year the name became Concord United Church of Christ.

Providence Welsh Congregational Church

Name changed

Organized by Welsh settlers in 1851-52.  First church building opened in 1860.  Moved to Wayne Ave. and William St. in 1904.  Name was changed to Dr. Jones Memorial Congregational Church after the death of Dr. R. S. Jones.

 

Puritan Congregational Church

Dates from 1889 as an offshoot of Providence Welsh Congregational, as an English-speaking congregation.  Second church building opened in 1904.  Christ   In 1960 also, there were failed negotiations to merge with Puritan Congregational Church, but succeeded in 1982.  While still in transition, they were called Puritan & Dr. Jones Memorial Church, United Church of Christ.  Later that year the name became Concord United Church of Christ.  Occupied both buildings.

The church and the rectory were sold and converted into apartments.  Most members transferred to Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church at Prospect Ave. & Beech St.

Congregation was organized in 1912.  The cornerstone was laid in 1915.  In 1934 it affiliated with the newly formed denomination, the merger of Evangelical Synod and the German Reformed becoming the Evangelical and Reformed Church
