Left: Willa Hoyt Wakefield - Poli Theatre Ad - (1911)

Farley-Allan’s ad for Poli Theatre show by popular pianologist, Willa Hoyt Wakefield (1911).

Georgia-born Willa Holt Wakefield was a pianologist who packed the house wherever she performed. A pianologist tells stories (pianologue) and sings while playing the piano. The ad is superbly drawn and brushed - with the striking contrast of the black piano and bold, black lettered name, POLI'S, against a white background. This is a remarkable display of Farley-Allan’s illustrative skills – use of color, perspective, dimension, portraiture and lettering.
