Henry James Carr was the son of Jane D. Goodhue and Colonel James Webster Carr. He was born August 16, 1849 in Pembroke, New Hampshire.

He was the first librarian of the Albright Memorial Library, in Scranton.

Note: His wife's maiden name is misspelled.
